Support Sought to Aid Military Dogs in Iraq
Happy Tails Dog Spa™ Initiates Independence Day Campaign
VIENNA, VA - June 30, 2005 - To mark the July 4th holiday, Happy Tails Dog Spa™ is seeking donated supplies to assist dogs that are supporting the U.S. military effort in Iraq.
Happy Tails Dog Spa™, has been in e-mail contact with Master Sgt. Chris Burgess, who is the Operations Chief for the 2d Military Police Battalion at Camp Fallujah in Iraq. The Marine has spoken with the Kennel Master and a few of the dog handlers at the request of Happy Tails Dog Spa™ and has put together a wish list.
According to Master Sgt. Burgess, the military dogs need lip balm for their noses, as well as flying discs and chew toys without small detachable pieces. The Master Sergeant added the dogs also would love biscuits and large, knotted ropes to play with.
"Thank you for all the support. I know the handlers and the dogs will appreciate it very much," Burgess wrote, via e-mail to Happy Tails Dog Spa™.
Also, Burgess wrote, the dog handlers assigned to the K-9 unit would like sunflower seeds, sugarless gum, energy drinks, "goldfish" crackers, Slim Jims and beef jerky.
Amy Nichols, president & CEO of Happy to be Here, Inc., the franchise company of Happy Tails Dog Spa™, said a donation box is being placed today in the front lobby of the dog spa, inviting patrons to donate. A sign will be placed next to the box, listing Master Sgt. Burgess's wish list. Donations can also be mailed to Happy Tails Dog Spa, 8528-F Tyco Road, Tysons Corner, VA 22182.
"I know our customers will be extremely generous to help support these military dogs at a time when this country is celebrating its independence," Nichols said. "I am pleased that Happy Tails Dog Spa™ can play a role. Besides actively soliciting donations and purchasing items for the dogs and handlers, we will pay to have all items shipped directly to the K-9 troops in Iraq."
