During the fall of 2005 Kirsty completed an international exchange program at USF and it was during this time that Hurricane Katrina struck. The disturbing scenes, of both human and animal suffering, caused us to look into opportunities to provide animal care in the U.S.
After many years of frequent transatlantic travel we finally relocated from the UK in 2009 to Land O' Lakes, FL. Our original plan to open a store there was unfortunately hampered by the recession but, at the end of March 2010, we had a marvelous opportunity to take over as owner/managers of Dogtopia of Cary. We relocated from FL to NC at the beginning of May 2010 and instantly loved the store, clients and of course our doggy customers.
Prior to leaving cold and rainy London, we both worked for the Metropolitan Police Service; Diane was a Station Reception Officer, dealing with all manner of inquiries, taking crime reports and, generally keeping order at the front counter of the police station while Kirsty, was the Performance Manager with analytical and business organization responsibilities.
We brought our cat and dog with us from England, and have cared for a variety of pets throughout our lives. We have attended many animal behavior training classes and seminars including those held by celebrity trainers Cesar Millan and Victoria Stilwell. We are members of the Pet Care Services Association and in 2009 achieved a Certified Pet Care Accreditation through this body. We are also members of Pet Sitters International and are working towards accreditation with this group. We are also Pet First Aid and CPR trained through PetTech and Disaster Animal Response Team trained through the Humane Society of the United States.
Our goal is to ensure that Dogtopia of Cary remains a safe and delightful experience for our doggy customers.
